Overseer Description

  • The CFalls lead pastor is charged with casting the vision and direction of the campus with the overseer board. The campus pastor reports directly to the senior pastor and executive pastor of The Chapel as provided by The Chapel’s constitution.
  • The Chapel CFalls is locally governed by 6 Overseers 
  • Overseers are chosen by people actively involved in the church
    • Must be in agreement with the mission and theology of The Chapel CFalls
    • Must be examined by the current overseers before final approval
  • Any paid pastoral role in The Chapel CFalls is automatically an Overseer
  • Overseer qualifications:
    • Above reproach
    • Examples to the flock (I Peter 5:3)
    • Not greedy for gain (Titus 1:7)
    • Upright (Titus 1:8)
    • Hold firmly to the Word T(Titus 1:9)
    • Holy (Titus 1:8)
    • Sober-minded (I Timothy 3:2)
    • Self-controlled (Titus 1:8)
    • Not greedy for gain (Titus 1:7)
    • Not quick tempered (Titus 1:7)
    • Not quarrelsome (I Timothy 3:3)
    • Not a drunkard (I Timothy 3:3)
    • Disciplined (Titus 1:8)
    • Not arrogant (Titus 1:7)

    • Upright (Titus 1:8)

    • Not a recent convert - must be a believer for 5 years or more (I Timothy 3:6)
    • Faithful sexually and maritally (I Timothy 3:2; Titus 1:6)
    • Respected as a father (I Timothy 3:4-5; Titus 1:6)
    • Self-controlled

    • Protecting the flock (Acts 20:28; Titus 1:9)
    • Able to teach (I Timothy 3:2; Titus 1:9)
  • An overseer who violates these Biblical requirements will be immediately removed as an Overseer by an in-person vote of the Overseers
  • The lead pastor is charged with casting the vision and direction of the campus and the Overseers are equal in authority to the lead pastor
  • The lead pastor is the preaching pastor and determines the sermons
  • The lead pastor is responsible for the staffing of the campus with the advice and consent of the Overseers. If a new position must be created, the lead pastor must take the proposal to the Overseers for approval before taking the proposal to the senior pastor, the executive pastor, and the trustees of The Chapel
  • If, in any decision regarding vision, hiring, etc., including sermon topics, the a majority of overseers disagree with the lead pastor then that decision as cast by the lead pastor cannot go forward
  • Each decision will be presented to the Overseers for discussion and notes will be taken by the selected representative of the Overseers. A vote will not be taken on any proposal unless a concern is addressed and a vote is requested
  • We trust that God is leading our church through the Overseers and any vote shall be respectful and done so while seeking God’s guidance and direction for The Chapel CFalls
  • The music leader reports directly to the lead pastor. The order of service will be decided by the lead pastor and the music leader with the songs, creeds, prayers, etc. chosen by the music leader
  • If an overseer has a concern about anything that happens during the worship gathering then he is to take those concerns directly to the lead pastor. If, after discussing the concerns with the lead pastor he is still concerned, then the concerns must be taken to all of the Overseers to be addressed. These concerns shall not be addressed with any other individual outside of the Overseers
  • The lead pastor is responsible to present to the Overseers the budget to be approved by the Overseers. Once approved by the Overseers, the budget will be submitted to the executive pastor in accordance with The Chapel policy. If revisions need to be made, the revisions will be taken to the Overseers (in person or by email) to be addressed and for modifications to be approved. The lead pastor is responsible to submit the budget to the executive pastor and to present the budget to The Chapel trustees upon request
  • All communication regarding The Chapel-CFalls to The Chapel pastors and trustees must be done solely by the lead pastor except for extreme cases. This ensures that one vision is presented and that The Chapel CFalls remains united in purpose and vision
  • Whoever violates the extra-Biblical requirements as an overseer will be brought before the Overseers for confession and repentance. If the Overseers determine that repentance is necessary and if the Overseer refuses to repent then he will removed from his role as an Overseer
  • In all things the goal of The Chapel Cuyahoga Falls is to proclaim the Name and Person of Jesus throughout the city. 51-to-none
